--regime still in full controle of the army and intelligence
--repeated calls for demonstration by "opposition" have failed to garner visible presence on the ground.
--people who demonstrated in support of president are, of course, not assadists or baathists; the main message people wished to deliver was "leave us alone".
--right now, patriotic sentiment in syria runs higher than ever.
