The new MP, who got elected as the result of an understanding between Hezbollah and Saad Hariri in Doha, is trying to pose as a statesman different from the bulk of stoogies that constitute the hordes of Al Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc. However, he is misreading the US and is assuming that Feltman is calling the shots. The apparent deadlock in government forming by Hariri Jr is not the result of the 'wishes' of the US administration as much as it is the result of the impasse of the Administration's ME policy has reached. THe deadlock is likely to stay until Obama announces at the UN his ME policy and plans for the Arab/Palestinian Israeli problem. Until then, Congress is in recess, Obama is starting his vacation, Arabs have told Obama what is expected from him (for once, there is some substance to their standing, see our earlier comments on this blog). So the deadlock in Lebanon is a reflection of the inability to formulate for the time being a coherent overall ME policy. Mr. Mashnouk will be well served to review his assessment until the dust clears.
