al Maliki to Washington: 'Stop Turkey's violations of our sovereignty or we'll conclude a 'Military & Security' agreement with Tehran ..."

[Azzaman]: "... Maliki wants to hear the United States’ position on Turkey's violations of Iraqi territory .Turkish aircraft violated Iraqi space to bomb PKK camps in northern Iraq in the Kurdistan region, where Turkish forces are stationed a part  of a formal agreement between Baghdad and Ankara, ratified by Saddam in the early 1980s and renewed  later.
Relations with Ankara reached a low when Baghdad held Erdogan responsible for  protecting wanted/fugitive vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, who was sentenced to death for 'terrorism'... .
Izzat al-Shabandar, a close associate of Maliki, told Azzaman that the Iraqis  expect Washington to use its influence over Ankara to stop the violation of Iraqi sovereignty ... If this fails,  observers believe that the US-Iraqi strategic agreement will be 'dead' & replaced by a 'military and security' agreement with Iran...."
