"... in a January 25, 2007 meeting between (then) Saudi Ambassador Khoja and US ambassador Feltman, ... Khoja relayed that prince Bandar called him from Tehran ... He sounded 'tired & weary' and was ciphrasing his conversation, ... Khoja promised Feltman to relay the details of Bandar's Tehran visit when he returns from KSA.
Khoja added that the Saudi strategy to break the Lebanese impasse was 'useless', because prying Syria away from Iran was alas, not in the offing.khoja added that whereas the Syrians' MO was to oppose Siniora, it appeared that the 'senior partner was Iran' due to its leverage with Hezbollah. Khoja certified to Feltman that Iran was not supportive of a Sunni-Shia' conflict. This is precisely why, Khoja was hopeful that Iran would still play a moderating role with Damascus... But Khoja concluded that the Iranians decided to abide by Syria' & allies' playbook...
Moreover, Khoja told Feltman that his contacts with Hezbollah were nil ... and warned the US ambassador the period ahead was 'critical', that Syria decided to 'destroy Lebanon' ... Khoja finally whispered "we need to support Saad, Walid and even Geagea' with money & weapons!"
