"They are using Hezbollah...!" (HRC sounding like DEBKAfile!)

Where is French & now US diplomacy going to?
"... US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that Iran is directly or indirectly communicating with opposition groups in Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen in a bid to shape events there... "They are doing everything they can to influence the outcomes in these places," Clinton told the Senate Appropriations Committee. "They are using Hezbollah... to communicate with counterparts... in (the Palestinian movement) Hamas who then in turn communicate with counterparts in Egypt," the chief US diplomat said. "We know that they are reaching out to the opposition in Bahrain. We know that the Iranians are very much involved in the opposition movements in Yemen, ... So either directly or through proxies, they are constantly trying to influence events. They have a very active diplomatic foreign policy outreach," she added.
'Success written all over the Clinton-Feltman approach'
In a bid to counteract the Iranian moves, she said, the United States is making diplomatic and other contacts of its own with opposition groups across the Middle East and North Africa. "Most people want us to be helpful but they don't want us to be taking a leading role, ..... But it is also a challenge for the Iranians. They don't have a lot of friends (AND THE US DOES?), but they're trying to curry more friends," Clinton said...."

US ineptness in foreign policy seeks refuge in blaming others for fomenting revolts against the autocratic corrupt US allies. It cannot accept that people have a voice and if Iran is trying to reach out and is more successful than the US then the latter has only herself to blame.

How dare the Iranians try to "curry" favor or "make friends?" It was so much easier to oppose them when they "engaged in terrorism." But now they have the nerve to talk to other people in their part of the world!

Is anyone in Washington trying to figure out what kind of new Mideast is emerging and how to change U.S. policy in order to keep Washington in the loop, or is everyone just trying to pump the democratic water out of the sinking imperialist ship? (If you don't like those mixed metaphors, I could make reference to trains that have left the station...)

It's funny that Hillary picked Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen as examples of "foreign interference":

Egypt's military is subsidized by the US.

Bahrain hosts an entire fleet of the US Navy.

Yemen gets direct military aid, including Predator drones.

The hypocrisy would be breathtaking if it wasn't so predictable.
