French politiciancs love touring 'on the brink' ...

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and his family spent their end-of-year holidays in Egypt, where they borrowed a government jet to visit a temple, it emerged Tuesday. Fillon, his wife and children were hosted by embattled President President Hosny Mubarak's administration between December 26 and January 2, the prime minister said in a statement, confirming a report in Le Canard EnchainĂ© newspaper. During that time, they borrowed a government plane to fly from the city of Aswan to Abu Simbel....
Fillon is the second member of President Nicolas Sarkozy's cabinet whose recent travels in North Africa have raised uncomfortable questions about France's foreign policy.
Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie has rejected calls to resign after she was revealed - also by Le Canard EnchainĂ© - to have accepted the largesse of a businessman linked to ousted Tunisian leader Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali's family during her December holidays. Alliot-Marie spent her holidays in Tunisia, despite that country already being convulsed by rioting, which eventually toppled Ben Ali in mid-January..."
