Khaddam (yes, he still lives): "... enhancing national unity and promoting a culture of freedom, democracy ..."

I really don't know where to start & where to end with this creature ...Via Mideastwire/ here

On July 9, the Al-Masry al-Yawm daily carried the following interview with Khaddam, the former official at the Al-Baath party... :

…Q. Why did you turn to the opposition?

“A. It is normal for any side aspiring to change the system in any country to have a project for change. The National Salvation Front in Syria has its own change project. The intention is not to replace a person with another but to replace a system with another. I am not the alternative. The alternative is democracy that stresses on the people as a reference in the change process…

Q. What is the means to achieve change and does the opposition have this means?

“A. The issue is not related to a specific form for change. The main objective is for change to be peaceful and not by shoving the country into armed conflicts (that IS NOT what you peddled in Paris & Washington Abdul!!) that could lead to dismantling national unity and ripping the country apart. The experience of bloody conflicts in Iraq is in front of us. The safest way is to work on enhancing national unity and promoting a culture of freedom, democracy, removing the culture of fear (you gotta love that one!) and creating an ambiance for national work that leads to achieving change.

“Q. Do you think that there are wings within the system that can lend a hand to the opposition?

“A. The system has no wings. ......However, a large number of people working within the system do realize the situation of the country and are open to change without being directly involved because they are all under monitoring…”
