March14er: "Bush had it all wrong on Iraq & Syria..."

Below is a paragraph that I was allowed to quote from a series of emails that I traded with a guy 'real tight' with the March14/Quantum crowd ... He qualifies them "in retrospect":

"W Bush had it all wrong. He went after Saddam instead of Assad. Saddam could've been managed, restrained and coopted to work against his nemesis' in Syria. In retrospect, Saddam was our best asset. Our real problem in the US and Lebanon is with Syria/ Hezbollah and Iran. He should've rolled back the allawi regime in Damascus, severed the umbilical chord between Hezbollah terrorists and their lifeline through Syria, and managed to pull (AND CHISEL IN STONE) the Lebanese democratic movement.
Instead, Bush went after Saddam, delivered Iraq to the Iranians, allowed the Iranians some chest pounding and hesitated on Syria. At the end of his mandate, he was grudgingly contemplating 'engagement'. In retrospect; Iran, Syria, Hamas and Hezbollah are stronger because of W Bush.
So yes Obama's foreign policy is ad-hoc and misguided and lousy, but the damage was really done during the mandate of the US president who gave us the most hope."
