"... Outside of the UN Security Council track, “there’s a second track, where you have Gulf allies and the rest of the Arab states who are trying to build consensus among the Gulf and Arab states to do something about Iran," the Washington Gulf expert told POLITICO. "What that something is is murkier. What the what is. I think there is consensus within moderate Arab states that they are really trying to ramp up the preparations” for any possible eventualities regarding Iran, including a “hair trigger” type situation.
He described two tracks of preparations. “You have to pursue the sanctions track, and have to continue to do everything you can to isolate the Iranians, [including] from a credibility perspective," he described.
“But there is a second track of very very active contingency plans for ‘what if,'" the Washington Gulf expert continued. "In the first instance, everybody in the region wants to know that they have the hardware and commitments necessary to guarantee their security if something happens regardless of who pulls the trigger or if Iran initiates something.”
