Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Murr said yesterday that he didn't examine the security agreement signed between the Internal Security Forces (ISF) and the U.S. Embassy at the time of the first government of former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora.Murr told Al-Manar in an interview that the Lebanese Army under President Michel Suleiman (who was army commander at the time) paid attention to the sensitive clauses that are causing conflicts nowadays. These stances were removed from the agreement with the army, Murr pointed out.Murr, meanwhile, approved the option of reconsidering the agreement within the current national-unity government, stressing the necessity to be aware of the agreement's repercussions on national sovereignty. He ruled out the presence of any "bad faith" in this case from the part of ISF chief or the Interior Minister, calling to resolve the conflict through dialogue.Adding that his ministry has begun preparing a study for the appropriate defense strategy to be submitted to the national dialogue conference at the appropriate time, he stressed the necessity to seriously deal with the issue, rejecting the idea of offering any gift to the Israeli enemy, reminding everyone that Israel's problem is based on the Resistance's weapons."Logic says that if some parties were annoyed with Hizbullah weapons, then this doesn't mean providing Israel with free gifts," Murr stressed, adding that the Resistance's weapons guarantee deterrence against the enemy. "As long as I'm the Defense Ministry, I won't be from my position the cause of the ruination of my country," Murr concluded.
