Clinton praises Netanyahu's 'moratorium'... again

Politico, here

"Special Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell will brief the press today, as reports say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to announce a 10-month freeze on new construction of Jewish settlements in the West Bank. The freeze would not apply to Jerusalem.

(UPDATE: Hillary Clinton issued a statement praising the move: "Today’s announcement by the Government of Israel helps move forward toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict....")

The moratorium is the one that Hillary Clinton caused an uproar over by praising it as "unprecedented" at a Jerusalem news conference last month,....

Whether Mitchell can use it to push Palestinians back to the table remains to be seen. "We will try," one administration official said on condition of anonymity. "They won’t like it today, but we hope to build on it, so to speak."
