The apparent American-Iranian rapprochement has already raised concerns among Arab countries who fear that this will come at their expense, analysts noted earlier.
"I would like to take this opportunity to reassure all our friends in the Gulf that we are not doing anything in our engagement with Iran that would come at the expense of the interests of our traditional friends and allies in the Gulf," Feltman said during the telephone press conference with journalists in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait, Doha, Manama, Riyadh and Sanaa.
"This is why you will see evidence, for example, of very heavy serious consultations that we are having with various Arab regional governments, a parallel policy on Iran. We want to make sure first of all that the regional governments understand what we are trying to do. Second of all, we want to be able to incorporate into our strategy the concerns of the regional governments and to take their experiences...," he added referring to dealing with Iran.
"So there is a lot of wisdom that the Arab states have provided and are providing to us about how best to address our concerns with Iran in a way that might achieve some of the objectives, without undercutting the security and political interest of the Arab Gulf and others," he said."
