Lebanese Army set to receive Iranian weaponry

JPOst, here
"The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) has accepted an offer by Iran to provide it with weapons produced by the Iranian defense industries, a Lebanese newspaper reported on Wednesday. According to al-Akhbar, the proposal was sent from the Iranian embassy in Beirut.
In their response, LAF officers said the army was in need of anti-aircraft weaponry. Israeli officials have expressed concern that the existence of such weapons in Lebanon, whether in the hands of Hizbullah or the army, would constitute a change in the strategic balance between Israel and Lebanon......
The Lebanese military, in its own words, as seen on its official Web site, regards Israel as its "primary antagonist and enemy," while maintaining Hizbullah's right to "resist,""

Wow so once they have the weapons then all that the Lebanese Army needs are Military Generals and Soldiers willing to actually fight an invading force as opposed to falling asleep for 40 or so days.

I am not so sure whether Anonymous is being serious, trying to downplay the implication of an otherwise balance-altering development or have nothing of note to say so tried to be obnoxious and succeeded.

Any motivated soldier is capable of carrying out his/her duty well given the right armament and the appropriate training. I believe that the current leadership of the Lebanese army has done a good job of rehabilitating the military establishmnent after so many years of inactivity due to the troubles of the country. As importantly, I observe that the majority of public opinin in Lebanon supports the arming of the military, and consequently it wouln't be too difficult to nurture the political will to use the new-found prowess.

Of a more serious and far-reaching consquence would be the regional implication of havin Iran become a regional provider of relatively advanced and high-powerd arsenal to Lebanon. This move, if proven accurate, will certainly be a cause for concern to Israel and its allies, regionally and internationally, as it will herald a shift in the balance of power to be added to the strategic change already imposed by Hizbullah after the 2006 war.

If the news were to be true and followed by action, the region will then be embarking on some 'interesting' times indeed.
