".... "The administration will try to play this for all its worth," the Brookings Institution's Suzanne Maloney told POLITICO. "Certainly for those already convinced that Iran had military intentions for its program, this disclosure will not come as tremendous shock.
But Maloney was not sure the revelation will do much to convince remaining fence-sitters."Frankly as a negotiating tactic, I am not sure a public disclosre like this gains us very much," she said. "I can only surmise that the admininstration’s decision to go public on this was preempted by the Iranians [disclosure to the IAEA], who appear to have caught onto the fact.," the West knew about its second facility.”What the Iranians will do between now and [international talks] next week is develop their rationale," as they have already begun to do, she noted. That argument involves obligations to notify the IAEA six months before introducing nuclear material into a facility, apparently something Iran says it hasn't yet done in the Qom facility it was building. The White House reiterated that it is pressing ahead with the planned October 1 talks. "We are committed to serious, meaningful diplomacy," the White House guidance issued Friday said. "These revelations underscore the importance of stating our concerns directly to Iran on October 1. We will look for Iran to take steps to create confidence for the international community."..."
