Syria Talks Signal New Direction for U.S.

In the NYTimes, here

"...By seeking an understanding with Syria, which has cultivated close ties to Iran, the United States could increase the pressure on Iran to respond to its offer of direct talks. Such an understanding would also give Arab states and moderate Palestinians the political cover to negotiate with Israel. That, in turn, could increase the burden on Hamas, the Islamic militant group that controls Gaza, to relax its hostile stance toward Israel..."

When will people in the US understand that the world no longer functions at the whims of the Israeli lobby or US imperial ambitions. A new reality has to sink in: that any settlement that does not have the approval of the people, in this case the Palestinian people, will not work. Negotiating with Israel in order to achieve only Israel's security is pure wishful thinking. Only when the full rights of the Palestinian rights are restored, and as Palestinians see it not as stooges of the PA will, then Israel may be entitled to live in peace. Though I personnally doubt that it wants to do so.
