Hariri: "It's a choice between Hezbollah & Sovereignty"

To AFP, here

"Our course is justice, independence, freedom, sovereignty and most importantly -- Lebanon first," Hariri told AFP in an interview, referring to his coalition backed by the West as well as Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

"That is not the case for the other side," he added, referring to the Hezbollah-led alliance backed by Syria and Iran. ......

Asked about his plans if the Hezbollah alliance wins the vote, Hariri replied, smiling: "I will go on a long vacation."

Young Hariri will be well advised to go on a 'permanent' vacation. His leadership has been at best a source of sectarian animosity. While one can understand his frustrations at seeing no resolution of his father's assassination, yet his feelings get in the way of leadership. He has been constantly on the wrong side of the conflict. Aligning oneself with the US, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, staunch supporters and accomplices respectively in crimes against Palestinians is not the best way to ensure his father's legacy. His animosity to Hezbollah is driven only by the jealousy that his 'side' has never been able to achieve any of the accomplishments of Hezbollah. His entourage, a cohort of opportunists and mediocre minds, notwithstanding of dubious allegiances, is not helping promoting 'sovereignty, freedom, etc..'. Lebanon first as a slogan has proved to be disastrous for the country. No resolution of Lebanese problems can be achieved without the benevolence of Arabs. Lebanon must always espouse Arab issues for its own survival. An artificial state created by colonialism is not viable outside its Arab environment. Lebanon first, at the expense of Arab issues will not lead to stability and prosperity in Lebanon. TO the contrary, by being the spearhead of Arab causes, Lebanon can ensure its survival and prosperity.
