Feltman & Shapiro to Syria

"...The two officials going soon to Damascus are Jeff Feltman, the acting assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs, and Daniel Shapiro, a National Security Council aide responsible for the Middle East. Both are accompanying Clinton on her trip to the Middle East..."

How can a person known for his lack of objectivity pay any lip service to the interests of the US in the region? Feltman's tenure in Lebanon was disastrous as he continuously pushed the country to the abyss. One cannot accept the explanation that he was just following orders. He was enjoying it too much and serving the interests of Israel before that of the US. How can he tramsmit honestly the contents and tone of the discussions he will be having with the Syrians? One has to be quite skeptical about the willingness and genuine desire of cooperating with Syria and finding lasting solutions to the problems of the region. For these problems are related to Israel first and foremost. If the latter is still at the center of US diplomacy, then it will go nowhere and more tension will prevail. Israel is running out of time for after each confrontation its opponents are getting stronger and stronger. Continuing a policy of rejection of a just solution will only lead to the inevitable withering of the State of Israel, at least in its concept as a Jewish state or a state for Jews only.
