Our shaky coalition, and how to save it

MESH, here
"....Washington and the Arab capitals are like two donkeys tied together on a cart: neither can stand without the other’s help, and neither can escape unless the other is also freed. The Arab regimes are implicated by our failed foreign policies in the region, and we are implicated by their failed domestic governance. If we don’t help each other, we are both in trouble, and we know it.............a situation that plays right into the arguments of regional radicals like Hasan Nasrallah as to why these regimes have to be overthrown: they sell out to the Americans, they make humiliating deals with Israel, and they don’t care about the people"

The author of this article, Tamara Cofman Wittes, is Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy of the Brookings Institution, where she focuses on U.S. efforts to promote democracy and the Arab-Israeli peace process. Before joining the Saban Center, Wittes was a Middle East specialist at the U.S. Institute of Peace, conducting and supervising research on the Arab-Israeli peace process, regional security, and U.S. relations with the Muslim world.

Now consider the above can someone PLEASE explain to me how someone who is said to specialise in the ME can write such a truly foolish article which, if you read between the lines, states that future US policy should be exactly like the the US policy of the last 8 years!

For pitys sake, she claims that the critiques of pigs like Mubarak and the Abdullahs is "revisionist". Of course it is Tamara. Nothing to do with actual facts.

And her recommendations?
Pretend to be be giving the peace process a real push even though you know its going to get nowhere because no one should be putting any pressure on the poor Israelis.

Yes ma'am thank you ma'am we Arabs are that stupid.

Stay in Iraq. Increase troop levels in the Gulf as a whole.

Yes, that will make the rulers of the Gulf states and Iraq look less like American lackeys won't it?

Oh and you got to love the last one. Give the Arabs outside Palestine a cahce to shape their own future.

Well guess what genius. Until the people of Palestine get to shape thei own future, Hamas and Hizballah is the shape of our future and its a shape most of us want.

Ms Wittes. Get real, get serious and get an education. Andrew Exum should be embarrassed to be associated with these people.
