Aoun goes to Doha weary of a 'concoction'...

The General is sensing that the Arabs (in this case the Qataris) are listening carefully to Nabih Barri's "whispers" on perhaps, the need to fast-track the election of a President, before and at the expense of all else.... In whatever the General pulls at Doha, he has the FULL support of Suleiman Frangieh. Brings to mind, the "Mikhael-Daher-1988-Christian-Front"... This does not sound too comforting...

I wouldn't read too much into that. Hizballah won't betray Aoun - It would confirm everything the Christians believe about them to be true, and Berri won't go against Hizballah, Amal didnt fight THAT well for him to be able to.

if Aoun's fears are legit. it is also said that HzB is not part of the concocters. That would leave berri pretty isolated, of course, if they insist. The Opposition should find a way to remain intact.. and if disagreement need be, it would have to be with the emasculated ones!

I just read Franklin Lamb's latest effort on Counterpunch, and even more obviously than on previous occasions, I don't believe it is by the real Franklin Lamb. I have seen so much propaganda from all sides in the last week, and it all follows the same childish ad hominem pattern, at the expense of credibility - some of Franklin Lamb's earlier work contains bona fide order of battle type stuff, but not this. Check it out anyway and see whether you find it credible as the supposed product of a professional academic. I don't.

Aoun is not going to be Prez this go around. The main point is the electoral law and the blocking vote on the cabinet.

the translation of the quote

"
Commenting on rumours that he had refused to include the name of Army Commander General Michel Suleiman, a single consensus candidate, said Gen. Aoun always translate to a modern form in the wrong, explaining that he had proposed transitional government so as not to leave the country in the event of collision if leaders did not reach an understanding.
He asked Gen. Aoun Prior to his departure for Doha: "We called for a transitional government representing all people and ensure stability and tranquillity proposal reserve in case we were unable to reach agreement "
