Can the Arab League solve Lebanon's political crisis?

Blanford, in the CSM, here
"... Amal Saad-Ghorayeb, a Hizbullah expert at the Carnegie Endowment's Middle East Center in Beirut, says the Arab League proposal appeared to be an attempt to "weaken the opposition and corner it. It seems that Hizbullah is not too thrilled about it and I think that the end result will be that the opposition will not agree."
Basically, the Deciders in the West wanted the Opposition to reject the still-born initiative, and as such they will not be disappointed. People today, expected fireworks out of Rabieh: none came! Status Quo to continue, ... Damascus will get its Arab summit, and Bush (who wanted to Microwave-heat Lebanon & Gaza) will have a semblance of "activity" prior to his trip. M14 will enjoy the blame-the-other game a bit longer... et ainsi de suite! Didn't we read that the Lebanese are getting used to all the "voids"? Void at the Presidency. Void in Dignity and void in Sovereignty...
