Sarkozy promised "pardon" to Chirac in return for "support."

Outgoing French President Chirac faces at least 3 corruption judiciary files when he exits the Elysee next month. Other MORE substantive files loom large, mostly those of "campaign financing" by late Lebanese PM Hariri.

Le Canard Enchaine reported that a "deal" was struck between Chirac and the right's candidate, Nicholas Sarkozy, in which if elected, Sarkozy would extend a "presidential pardon" to Chirac on at least the 3 files that haunt the later since his days as Mayor of Paris. In return, Chirac would of course "bless and anoint" Sarkozy as his Dauphin heir!

Despite the Elysee's "denials", the Right's objections were "lukewarm" while the left allowed the scandal to fester ...
