Sarkozy gets around US 'embargo' on sale of Airbuses to Syria ...

France intends to sell Syria ATR-72 planes for short flights, after French President Nicolas Sarkozy failed to persuade the Americans to accept the sale to Syria of Airbuses, which include some US-made parts....... the ATR-72 sale does not need US approval. Sarkozy will seal the deal in his upcoming visit to Damascus, scheduled for next week.

I never understood why Syria keeps crawling to the americans. French technology is just as good and Syria needs focus on their european ties more. As far as the Armericans are concerned, sooner or later they will smarten up once the neocons who are running the US govt realize that Israel can't survive without a comprehensive peace with Syria and therefore it is time to stop blacklisting Syria and convert the northern front into a peaceful zone. Of course, first the neocons must realize, Greater Israel is a fiction of their own imagination and just like the Syrian gave up on greater Syria,so must they.
