thanks for the updates.

so, with saniora's statements and the army's too, does it look like HA will keep the phone system and their preferred guy at the airport?

saniora didn't capitulate completely, but in practise yes???

It is refreshing to see accounts by foreign observers that do not follow the 'embedded' party line of US journalists wandering in the Middle East. Franklin Lamb has described in this piece and previous pieces the real mood in Lebanon. How hollow does the endorsement of Condi sound! Every time she makes a prediction either in Lebanon (remember the 2006 July statement about witnessing the 'birth pangs' of the Middle East) or about Lebanon (today's inept statement full of platitudes about endorsing the 'democratic institutions' of Lebanon) it signals a major disaster for US foreign policy. It is really strange to see how the political system in the US (supposedly 'democratic') has managed to put in power for eight years the most inept team ever in its history in conducting foreign policy and defense. It has won the all time gold medals for ineptness. This would have been a laughable matter had it not been for the tragedies the people of the region had to endure as a result of such policies. It was more than 'criminal', it was a 'mistake' (paraphrasing Talleyrand). The key figures in the Administration should be made accountable for the damages created by such ineptness notwithstanding the loss of life in the region.
